Mute a Video — Remove the Audio Track
To mute a video, upload it below and the tool strips the audio track entirely, leaving a silent clip with the picture untouched. Unlike turning the volume down, removing the track means no player, platform, or viewer can ever un-mute what is not there.
There are three classic reasons to do this: background noise you cannot fix — wind, chatter, hum; copyrighted music playing in the shot that would get a post flagged or muted by the platform anyway; and silent-first feeds where you plan to add captions or your own soundtrack instead.
How it works
- 1
Upload the video
Add the clip whose sound has to go — noisy footage, a video with unlicensed music in the background, anything up to 500 MB.
- 2
Strip the audio
Start processing and the audio track is removed at the file level. The video stream passes through untouched, so the picture quality does not change.
- 3
Download the silent clip
Save the muted video. From here you can post it as is, add captions for silent viewing, or lay a licensed soundtrack over it with the Add Music tool.
Why use Video-Matic
Gone, not just quiet
The audio track is deleted from the file itself — there is nothing left for a player to accidentally un-mute.
Picture stays pristine
Only the sound is touched; the video stream keeps its original resolution and quality.
Copyright-safe prep
Removing incidental music before posting avoids automated takedowns and platform-side muting.
24-hour auto-delete
Uploads and muted outputs are purged within a day from EU-hosted servers in Paris.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between muting and removing audio?›
Muting in a player just silences playback; the audio data is still in the file and comes back the moment someone un-mutes. This tool removes the audio track from the file itself, so the silence is permanent and travels with the video wherever you send or post it.
Will muting help with copyright claims on my video?›
If the problem is music playing in the background of your footage, removing the audio track removes the infringing content, which is exactly what platforms want. You can then add properly licensed music with the Add Music tool. It cannot help with visual copyright issues, only audio.
How much does it cost to mute a video?›
One credit per video. Signing up gives you 3 free credits, so your first three muted clips cost nothing. After that, buy a one-time credit pack on the pricing page whenever you need more — there is no subscription to worry about.
Can I add different audio after muting?›
Yes — that is the most common workflow. Mute the original track here, then use the Add Music tool to upload your own audio and set it as the new soundtrack. The result is a clean video with exactly the sound you chose and none of the noise you did not.
